Medical Engineering

Components for medical engineering purposes are demanding for highest manufacturing and testing standards. Only high performance defect-free materials with best possible reliability could be accepted. Two different application areas have to be distinguished: the first remaining inside human or animal creature (implant) and the others only being short-term used in visceral cavities (e.g. endoscopic tools). Because of spatial separation in production process a contamination of material grades could be completely avoided. Most important material for medical engineering purposes is BCE grade Z 700 E (hipped quality) - a ZrO2 Y-TZP material meeting the new standard ISO 13356:2008. Additionally a ZTA material is available based on ultra-pure, nanoscale Al2O3 + ZrO2 mixture.
