Most applications in chemical processes such as valve components for regulating and/or stop valves usually demand high corrosion resistance compared with excellent thermal shock resistance.
Additionally a high abrasion and wear resistance is required especially in those cases where fluids with highly loaded abrasive particles are used leading to a rapid failure of metallic valves and cones due to high wear. Typical materials for these application are pure Al2O3 (A-997), Mg-PSZ ZrO2 (Z-507) and Si3N4 (Silicon Nitride; N-205).
